Have you ever stopped for a minute to consider exactly what you are using when cleaning your house? Unfortunately, some of the ingredients can be down right scary, and yet we breathe them in, touch them with our hands and feet and let our kids stick everything in their mouths!
There are alternatives to consider with household cleaners. I’m going to list a few here, but check out this website and look into it yourself! https://www.ewg.org/guides/cleaners#.Wk01sVWnEdU
At our house, we use quite a few Seventh Generation products. We like their laundry detergent, dish soap and dishwasher detergent. We use Norwex dryer balls in place of our fabric softener and they are great.
We also have switched to a natural carpet cleaner (thanks dogs!) and we have been using and like Bi-O-Kleen Bac-Out. It works well and smells good too!
Bathroom cleaning becomes interesting because there are now so many great alternatives to bleach. We use Dr. Bronners Tea Tree Oil Soap and have found that it is a wonderful All Purpose Cleaner – it works well on everything! I haven’t bought any yet, but I am also interested in the natural shower sprays now available. I’ll have to check the EWG list!
As for our floors, we use a steam cleaner. The great part about those is that we just use water and add some essential oils in to clean the floors without chemicals! We like to use Thieves or Lemon, depending on the time of the year and if anyone has sniffles!
As you can see, there are so many choices and options for you – and they are super easy. Clearly, these are only a small sample of what is out there. You may have to do your homework a little in order to ensure that you are actually buying a natural cleaner. Method products, for example, do not score well on the natural lists because of the high fragrances that they put in them.
